PREP BALL ROUNDUP

The Port Arthur News

— PN-G 9, Barbers Hill 5

MONT BELVIEU — The Port Neches-Groves Indians baseball team collected nine runs on 11 hits, including a three-run round tripper from Spencer DeRon that helped his team to a 9-5 victory over the Barbers Hill Eagles on Tuesday night.

With the win, the Indians record improves to 6-2 on the season. The Tribe will return to action Thursday when they play Houston Memorial at 1 p.m. in Lufkin.

Hunter Knox was the winning pitcher, despite allowing two runs in each of his two innings of work. He only allowed two hits but got himself in trouble with four walks. Knox made up for that at the plate with two singles, however.

Kane Benoit and Hunter Denzlinger, who pitched the final two innings, also had two singles each. Denzlinger struck out four and allowed one run on two hits after relieving Austin Stone for the sixth and seventh.

Stone pitched the middle three innings. He allowed one hit and struck out three.

Barbers Hill had two runs in the first and second innings and then scored one in the bottom of the seventh. PN-G scored five in the first inning and added two in the third, one in the fourth and another in the seventh.

Lady Bears drop Lady Dogs, 5-3

Mauriceville — The Nederland Lady Bulldogs committed five errors and in doing so allowed four runs in the first inning of their 5-3 loss to Little Cypress-Mauriceville in Tuesday night's District 20-4A softball matchup.

The Lady Dogs responded with one run in the second, third and fourth innings but that was as close as they would come. LC-M, who had 10 hits for the game, added its fifth run in the sixth inning.

Madison Trevino, Jensen Richard, and Laney Hernandez scored the runs for Nederland, who had seven hits.

With the loss, the Lady Dogs overall record falls to 10-5 and they now have a 2-1 district mark. Their season will continue on Friday when they travel to Sulphur, La. for a two-day tournament.

Lady Indians 3, Lady Lions 0

LIVINGSTON — Port Neches-Groves pitcher Brittnee Moore held the Livingston Lady Lions to three hits and struck out 12 batters, guiding the Lady Indians to a 3-0 victory in District 20-4A softball action on Tuesday night.

PN-G picked up the decisive run in the fourth inning after working Mallory Livingston around from first base with a sacrifice bunt from Caitlynn Dykes and then Katy Austin hit an RBI single.

In the sixth inning, the Lady Indians add two more runs when the Lady Lions committed an error with the bases loaded. Haley Savant and Livingston both scored on the error. Each player had two singles in the game as well.

Caitlynn Dykes also singled in that inning. PN-G had nine hits as a team.

The Lady Tribe are now 8-6 on the season and their district record improves to 1-1. They are hoping to make up a rain out from Feb. 26 with Little Cypress-Mauriceville today at 5 p.m. That was originally supposed to be their district opener but rain has forced the game to be rescheduled twice.
