BALTIMORE —
According to a report by MASN’s Roch Kubatko, the Baltimore Orioles will purchase the contract of Triple-A outfielder Lew Ford and add him to their 25-man roster for Sunday’s game against Oakland.
Ford, 35, last appeared in the majors in 2007 with the Minnesota Twins. He hit .331/.390/.550 in 62 games for Baltimore’s Triple-A affiliate Norfolk.
The Orioles have been beset with injuries lately and only have three players on the bench as Jim Thome and Matt Wieters battle day-to-day injuries. Baltimore also just lost outfielder Steve Pearce, who was claimed off waivers by the Astros.
Currently, the Orioles have an open spot on the 40-man roster, so wouldn’t have to move anyone around to make room for Ford.
Baltimore is facing a lefty Sunday in Oakland’s Travis Blackley, followed by another lefty on Monday as Baltimore takes on the Yankees and CC Sabathia.
Ford is a career .272/.349/.402 hitter in 494 major league games.
