Daley's to host Fishing show

ORANGE — Daley’s Hunt-N-Fish, 6701 Jade Ave. in Port Arthur, will host its second annual fishing show today and Saturday 9 a.m.-7 p.m.

The event includes guest appearances by Scott Rowland Martin host of "The Scott Martin Challenge" and Forest Cup Winner, outdoors writer/lecturer/radio host Chester Moore (Saturday only), Dickie Colburn of Sabine Connection Guide Service and outdoors television legend “Cajun” Phil Broussard.

The free event will also feature reps from numerous tackle companies as well as tons of door prizes.

Now onto the report…

North Sabine---Trout and reds are fair on live bait and a variety of plastics fished under the birds when the winds have calmed. Topwaters are producing some fish early and late in protected areas. Very few reports of flounder.

South Sabine---Trout and reds remain to good under schools of shad on the main lake, mainly along the south shoreline. Very few reports of flounder.

Sabine Pass---Texas Parks & Wildlife Department officials report trout are fair to good under birds and pods of shad. Trout are good at the jetty on live bait and topwaters. Sheepshead are good on live shrimp tight to the rocks.

Lake Calcasieu (Big Lake)---Hackberry Rod and Gun reports high winds have made fishing tough. Anglers able to find protected water are catching good numbers of reds and trout along the shorelines on live shrimp under a popping cork, Mirrolure and Hackberry Hustlers. Very few reports of flounder.

Sam Rayburn---Texas Parks & Wildlife Department officials report largemouths are fair on minnows and small spinnerbaits. White bass are good on minnows and slabs. Crappie are good on minnows and Li'l Fishies over brush piles. Bream are good on shrimp and nightcrawlers. Catfish are fair on trotlines baited with live bait.

Toledo Bend---Holly Park Marina reports largemouths are slow on lipless and medium-running crankbaits. A few fish are being caught on jigs in deeper water and topwaters. White bass are very good in the river channel and main lake on spoons. Crappie remain good over baited holes in 20 to 25 feet of water. Bream are  shallow and anglers are taking worms and crickets.
