PN-G softball eliminated from playoffs

HAMSHIRE — The Port Neches-Groves softball team was eliminated from the Class 4A playoffs, falling 7-1 to Barbers Hill on Friday in Hamshire-Fannett.

The Lady Indians lost for the second consecutive season in bidistrict play, but scored the same number of runs off Barbers Hill that the Lady Eagles allowed in 14 district contests.



Nederland falls to LC-M, gets fourth seed

LITTLE CYPRESS — The Nederland baseball team lost 2-0 to Little Cypress-Mauriceville Friday, closing out the 2012 regular season and finishing fourth in District 20-4A.

The Bulldogs will play Barbers Hill in the bidistrict round of the playoffs next week at a site and time to be determined.

Nederland’s Brett Brown took the loss, allowing six hits, two runs while striking out 12.

PN-G baseball finishes season undefeated in district

BEAUMONT — The Port Neches-Groves baseball team polished off a perfect District 20-4A run by beating Beaumont Central 13-1 on Friday.

The Indians (23-3, 14-0) had clinched the district title by beating Little Cypress-Mauriceville three games ago and earned the top seed in 20-4A. They will face either Baytown Lee or Dayton, thought it was not clear late Friday night which team would earn the fourth and final playoff spot from 19-4A.



Memorial baseball closes with loss

The Port Arthur Memorial baseball team closed out the 2012 season with a 4-2 loss to Baytown Sterling.

Memorial finishes with a 4-2 record.
