PORT ARTHUR —
Luck of the draw turned in the Port Arthur Memorial girl’s basketball team’s favor on Wednesday, as they met with Channelview and North Shore to decide the seeding for a two-game playoff seeding tournament.
Memorial drew the top seed and will play the winner of North Shore and Channelview at 7 p.m. Friday at Baytown Sterling. The Lady Mustangs and Lady Falcons will play on at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The loser of the first game and the loser of the second will then flip to see which team gets the second and third seeds.
The Lady Titans (26-5, 10-2) could still play any of the second, third and foruth-place teams from 22-5A. Right now, Alvin is the fourth seed from 22-5A with a 7-5 district record, while Pasadena Memorial is the third seed with an 11-3 district record and Pearland is the second seed at 11-3.
Once seeding has been determined, Memorial will play its bidistrict round game Tuesday at a site and time to be determined.
Memorial beat Baytown Sterling 73-33 last Tuesday to clinch a share of its second straight 21-5A district title. The Lady Titans had never won a district title in school history before last season. Head coach Kevin Henry has now made the playoffs in both of his seasons at the helm and has a career record of 47-15.
