COLLEGE STATION —
The Port Arthur Memorial Titans 7 on 7 squad lost all three pool play games Friday at the state tournament, falling 34-29 to Tyler Lee, 46-26 to Plano West and 34-15 to Waco in Division I.
The Titans will play now in the consolation bracket, a single elimination tournament with the bottom two players from each pool.
Memorial will play Weslaco in the first game of the bracket Saturday.
If they can win that one, they will advance to play the second round at 10 a.m., the third round at 11:30 a.m. and the fourth round at 1:30 p.m. before the consolation championship scheduled for 3 p.m. at Kyle Field.
West Orange-Stark advanced to the championship bracket of Division II after beating Burnet 41-29, Aubrey 22-12 and Alpine 40-32 in pool play.
The Mustangs beat first-round opponent Cameron 34-15 Friday morning, but were bumped 33-26 by Celina in the second round.
Of course, it’s a small consolation that Celina went on to win the Division II championship later that day, defeating Graham 34-28.
It’s the fourth state 7 on 7 championship for Celina, the only team to win more than two at this point.
This marks the fourth time WO-S has made the state tournament and the third straight season they’ve gone to College Station.
For Memorial, it’s the first time they’ve appeared in the tournament since 2007 and the sixth time in school history.
Port Arthur Jefferson also made an appearance in the tournament in 2000.
