Bum, Hughen produced another winning effort

PORT ARTHUR — It was another highly successful Bum Phillips Celebrity Golf Tournament benefiting Hughen School last week, with a dinner on Thursday night and the tourney Friday morning and afternoon at Bayou Din. As of this writing, no bottom line was available on the amount of money raised, but we do have some winners. In the morning portion of the scramble, the Automatic Pump team of Ronnie Moye, Heath McGallion, Rob Lietzke and Chris Davis posted the low score of 57. Second at 58, after winning a tiebreaker, was the Industrial Service Supply foursome of Slade Hunt, Gator Combs, Stephen Gault and Kaleb Breaux. Also at 58 was the team of Todd McLane, Rodney Bombekt, Bud Chatelain and Mike Johnson. In the afternoon portion, the Veolia team of John Bergeron, Cody Burch, Kasey Duhon and Cody Duhon won with a 58. Second at 58, after losing the tiebreaker, was the Ashland ISP crew of Luke Wolfford, Tim Taylor, Gary Porter and Robert Templin . . .  The Seniors at The Babe was played in a 9-9 format with two-man teams. There was a tie in First Flight at minus 3 between Mike Lansford-Gene Hardy and Tony Trevino-Roger Baumer. In Second Flight, Raymond Darbonne-Bill Jones won with minus 1, which was two better than Charlie Huckaby-Ron Overstreet and Guy Van Cleve-Gary Anderson. Third Flight went to Dave Stugral-D. Bedair at plus 1. There was a tie for second at plus three between Larry Foster-Ken Fabre and Paul Bourgeois-K. Davis. Closest to the pin winners were Anderson (No. 2), Davis (No. 7), Pat Waite (No. 12) and Roger Baumer (No. 15) . . . In the Babe Zaharias DogFight, the team of Larry Padia, Larry Johnson, Harry Green and Jim Cooper won with 19&3. Second at 18&4 was the foursome of Ron LaFluer, David Arnaud, Brad Royer and Steve Childree. The team of Billy Tucker, Dennis Frazier, Jim Smith and Scot Welch placed third at 17&5. Closest to the pin winners were Childree (No. 2), Frazier (No. 7), Ed Hetzel (No. 12) and Buddy Silcox (No. 15) . . . The Wells Agape Scramble at Belle Oaks was won with a 64 by the team of Larry Plunk, Earl Boudreaux, Jim Hubel and Jay Webster. Second at 65 was the foursome of Bill Oldham, John Toohey, Casey Toohey and Matt Toohey. Third went to the team of Greg Galavez, Robert Moreno, Ray Ramirez and Damion Smith. They shot a 66. Closest to the pin winners were Oldham (No. 8) and Ramirez (No. 15). Long drive winner was Jason Jarrell on both No. 6 and No. 14 . . . In the Sabine Neches Chiefs Scramble at Belle Oaks, the team of Lee Sherman, Ken Ewing, Daniel Peters and David Drinkard won with a 57. Aaron McMahon won closest to the pin on No. 15. Mike Fuselier had the long drive on No. 17 . . . Jim Brown finished plus 6 to win the Friday Seniors at Belle Oaks. Mike Hebert was second at plus 5, followed by Bill Worsham and Rufus Mier at plus 2. Hebert won closest to the pin on No. 8 . . . The Patch Seniors 50 Plus game was played in a 2 ball format. On the front, the team of Wadsworth Thompson, Tommy Prejean, Joe Castleman, Pat Waite and Allen Suire won in minus 4. The back was won in minus 5 by the team of Richard Briggs, Kent Aguillard, Gary Fontenot and Terry Johnson . . . Former Port Neches-Groves golfer Trent Boudoin helped the University of Texas-Tyler win the American Southwest Conference championship at Crown Colony Golf Club by a whopping 46 shots. Boudoin, who finished 7th in the 2009 4A state championship as a senior at PN-G, shot rounds of 77-73-74 for a 54 hole total of 224 to finish five strokes off the winning pace of UT-Tyler teammate John Walsh . . . Entries are still being taken for Saturday’s Association For The Retarded Tournament, benefiting the Estelle and Allen Fetters Center, at The Patch. Fee is $50 per player or $200 per team, with shotgun starts set for 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Greens fee, cart, food and cold drinks are included in the $50 entry. Entries are being taken for the May 5-6 Tyrrell Garth Invitational at Beaumont Country Club. Format is 36 holes of stroke play, with golfers flighted by handicap. Fee is $175 per play and includes a Friday practice round, lunch in the grill from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days of the tournament and a Friday night cocktail party. There is a $20 cart fee for the practice round. Each flight will have a player pool and skins game. Call 898-7011 . . .
