Cayman to Hillbillies, weekend action packed

PORT ARTHUR — Cayman Night scheduled for Saturday

The Greater Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce and the Port Arthur International Seafarers' Center have announced the fifth annual Cayman Night in Port Arthur.

This year's event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Carl Parker Center, 1800 Lakeshore Drive. The Outrigger Band will provide a music show to kick-off the night. Barefoot Man and Sea 'N' B will headline the event, with a special performance by Andy Martin, "The Cayman Cowboy."

If your company is interested in joining Cayman Airways, Motiva Enterprises, the Rotary Club of Port Arthur, Sempra Energy, and Valero Port Arthur Refinery, as a sponsor, contact the chamber at (409) 963-1107.

Tickets and tables of 10 are available for purchase at www.caymannight.com! Hors d'oeuvre trays prepared by the Golden Triangle Chef's Association will also be available for purchase online.

Dylan’s

This Mid-County venue rocks like no other this weekend as the Jimmy Kaiser Band performs on stage tonight at Dylan’s and JAG cover all those Top 40 hits you know and love on Saturday. Admission is charged each weekend night for ages 21 and older.

Catch acoustic music performances each Tuesday night at Dylan’s. This week’s performer is Lee Pelly. Also, remember to stop in on Wednesday night for karaoke. Call 409-722-1600 for more information.



Capri Club

Centerstage is front and center this Saturday night as the band performs at the Capri Club. Or, if you have the opportunity, stop by on Wednesday night at Clint Faulk performs on stage.

The Capri Club is a private venue and requires a $10 per year membership fee for ages 21 and older. Call 409-724-1030 for details.



Cash’s Bar and Grill

A new band full of familiar faces will grace the stage this Saturday night at Cash’s Bar and Grill in Port Arthur.

The group Angel Siren features members of the band known as Stale Mind, and the new group will hold its CD release party this Saturday night for ages 21 and older. Admission is $10 at the door and includes a free disc with each paid admission. Also performing are special guests Observation and Southern Kill.

Cash’s is a private venue and requires a $10 per year membership fee. Call 409-729-6639 for details.



Jake’s Place

It’s a music weekend again at Jake’s Place on Spurlock Road in Nederland this Saturday as Mark and The Maniacs perform for ages 21 and older. Admission is free. Call 409-721-5852 for information.



“The Beverly Hillbillies”

Port Arthur Little Theatre will present its final weekend of “The Beverly Hillbillies”. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Sunday matinees will be at 2:30 p.m.   Reservations: 727-PALT (7258).  The theatre is at 4701 Jimmy Johnson Blvd. Tickets $11 adults, $9 senior citizens and students.



National Guard Armory

Gulf Coast Power Pro Wrestling (GCPPW) is back with all of the action fans have come to expect this Saturday night at the National Guard Armory, 511 Grigsby in Port Neches.

The doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the action begins at 8 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $7 for children, and seating is on a first come, first served basis.

There will be plenty of action Saturday night, including a heavyweight championship match between ZenZen and All-American J. Wayne. There is also a cruiserweight championship match between Christopher Now and Champion Matt Chambers, plus tag team title match Billy Bongo and Hector Montoya take on Cali Crush. A special women’s match is also on the card.

Sanderson’s

Dylan James will perform starting at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, at Sanderson’s Restaurant in Nederland, while country musician Troy Allen takes the stage on Tuesday night. Call 409-722-8900 for more information.



Nutty Jerry’s

If you missed the opening weekend of Nutty Jerry’s in Winnie last week, then take advantage of this weekend’s entertainment lineup and head out to Chambers County for some good music and fun.

Performing on stage tonight is the well known western-swing music group, Asleep at the Wheel. Opening the show is Jamie Talbert, Allen Duhon and the Gulfcoast Cowboys. Admission is $15-$25 at the door.

Then, on Saturday night, it’s Travis Matte and the Kingpins dishing out a mix of rock, Cajun, Zydeco, hip-hop and more. Special guest is Mike Trahan and The Highstreet Band. PA VFW

The Port Arthur VFW Hall will be the location for a special fundraiser for Vietnam veteran Marvin “Buddy” Bond starting at noon, Saturday.

There will be great food, live music, a DJ spinning great music and an auction, all to help Bond cover expenses for cancer of the jaw and tongue and his transportation to M.D. Anderson in Houston. The event concludes at 1 a.m., Sunday.



Big Nasty’s

The name may have changed, but the good times are still the same at Big Nasty’s.

Formerly known as Brewsky’s, Big Nasty’s invites ages 21 and older to join in on the weekend fun, including karaoke with Joyce Rainey starting at 8 p.m., tonight, and live music from The Bogarts on Saturday.

On Sunday, The House Band welcomes you to join in on the Open Mic Jam starting at 6 p.m. Call 409-697-3053 for details.



Starvin’ Marvin’s

Live music is featured every weekend at Starvin’ Marvin’s Bar and Grill, and this weekend is no exception.

Performing tonight is Michael O’Neal with Pear Street Riot, while the Front Porch Band is on tap on Saturday night.
