PNGISD will consider suing turf contractor

PORT ARTHUR — On Thursday, the Port Neches-Groves school board will consider filing a lawsuit against FieldTurf, the company responsible for installing the turf at Port Neches-Groves High School’s Indian Stadium.

For the past two years PN-GISD has been evaluating the turf, which cost almost $2 million to install in 2008,  for premature deterioration: The breaking apart of the nylon fibers used in the artificial grass.

“It’s coming apart in some places and we’re having trouble getting [FieldTurf] to hold up their end of the deal,” Cavness told The News on Monday.

According to previous reports, a normal turf field comes with an eight to 10-year warranty.

“The board is going to discuss if we want to enter into litigation with the company,” Cavness said.

The special public meeting of the Port Neches-Groves ISD school board to discuss taking action regarding contemplated litigation will be held at noon on Thursday at the PN-GISD Administration Building, 620 Ave. C in Port Neches.

Also, the superintendent Rodney Cavness will host an open community forum to answer questions from the community at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 6, at the West Groves Education Center-Board Room located at 5840 West Jefferson Street in Groves.

• ’American Bandstand’ host Dick Clark has died

  Dick Clark, the television host who helped bring rock ‘n’ roll into the mainstream on “American Bandstand,” has died. He was 82.
  Spokesman Paul Shefrin says Clark died but did not provide further details. Clark had continued performing even after he suffered a stroke in 2004 that affected his ability to speak and walk.
