Windy Wednesday; Isaac moves into Louisiana

— Today will be a windy Wednesday for southeast Texans as Hurricane Isaac moves into Louisiana.

Hurricane Isaac moved a bit to the west overnight before making is second landfall near Fort Fourchon, La. The new forecast track is very similar to the path of Hurricane Gustav in 2008, according to the National Weather Service-Lake Charles.

The effects in southeast Texas include winds 30 to 45 mph on Wednesday, dropping to 20 to 40 mph on Thursday, tides for Sabine Pass and Cameron, La. will run 1 to 2 feet above normal when the winds shift to the south Wednesday night or Thursday, and rainfall of 2 inches or less may occur in our area.

At 9 a.m., the center of Hurricane Isaac was estimated near latitude 29.6 north, longitude 90.6 west, or about 5 miles east of Houma, La. and about 50 miles south-southwest of New Orleans.

Isaac is moving toward the northwest near 6 mph and this general motion is expected to continue through tonight.

Sustained wind of 53 mph with a gust to 65 mph was recently reported at Shell Beach, La. Tropical storm conditions also continue along the Mississippi and Alabama coasts.
