The National Weather Service in Lake Charles continues to monitor the track and intensity of Tropical Storm Isaac. Because the forecast error cone includes much of southwest, south central, and central Louisiana, tropical storm watches and warnings and hurricane watches are now in place.
The NWS has been in contact with local and county officials and emergency management coordinators keeping them information of the latest developments of the storm.
Port Arthur Police Maj. John Owens, who is emergency management coordinator for the city of Port Arthur, said officials are taking part in periodic conference calls with the NWS and are monitoring the storm very closely.
“Should there be any reason to be concerned locally we will take appropriate measures to ensure the safety of the citizens,” Owens said.
Mayors and county judges are also in on the same conference calls so they are on the same page, he said, to ensure all are involved in dissemination of information and decision making.
“We need to maintain an awareness of the storm,” he said. “We spoke with the chief meteorologist and the latest information at 10.m. shows the effects in southeast Texas will likely be gusty winds beginning tomorrow night through Wednesday and a chance of rain.”
