— The National Weather Service has extended a tornado watch until 9 p.m. Wednesday for Jefferson and Orange counties and portions of southwest Louisiana.

A flash flood warning is also in effect for Jefferson and Orange counties, southeastern Jasper County and southwestern Newton County until 6 p.m.

At around 2:38 p.m. Beaumont Police Department issued a press release regarding street flooding due to heavy rain accumulation which led to both the northbound and southbound service roads of Eastex Freeway at East Lucas becoming impassible.

Alarm monitors in the department’s communication center also indicated the underpasses at Park and Virginia, MLK and Virginia, MLK and Lavaca, MLK and College as well as the Irving Street underpass were flooded and impassible.

A Port Arthur man was shot to death Thursday night in the 3200 block of 14th Street. The victim, 28-year-old Jason Eugene Johnson was found lying unresponsive in a driveway at approximately 11 p.m. by Port Arthur PD.

PALT to present 'Love, Sex and IRS'

’American Bandstand’ host Dick Clark has died
Dick Clark, the television host who helped bring rock ‘n’ roll into the mainstream on “American Bandstand,” has died. He was 82.
Spokesman Paul Shefrin says Clark died but did not provide further details. Clark had continued performing even after he suffered a stroke in 2004 that affected his ability to speak and walk.

The Central Middle School Band capped off a successful year by competing in the Solo and Ensemble Contest on May 5th. Forty-eight students brought home 66 medals. Later that evening, they will be part of the Nederland ISD Band Pageant at the Performing Arts Center.
