Team golf regular season matches are underway

The City of Groves PGA Junior Team Golf League kicked off its regular season matches at Bayou Din Golf Club last Thursday. The matchups included the Groves Gators who battled the Southeast Texans and the Boomtown Oilers who faced the Mid-County Cardinals.
The junior golfers, competing under PGA Junior League team guidelines, are split into 6 to 8 person teams across two age divisions and compete in a “two on two” match play scramble format over 9 holes, with one point being up for grabs for each set of 3 holes.
Overall team point standings through match one were as follows: Boomtown Oilers 6 1/2, Southeast Texans 5, Mid-County Cardinals 4 1/2, Groves Gators 4.
Top performers were Elizabeth Townsend and Dev Patel who won 3 points for the Texans in their match against Groves. Tyler Feemster playing for the Gators and Kensey Dukes, playing for the Cardinals each scored 3 points. Teammates Micah Depew, Arjun Singh, Preston Ricks, CJ Chance and Collin Todora played steady across all their matches to help the Oilers take the overall lead.
Saturday’s second matches pitted the Groves Gators against the Mid-County Cardinals and the Boomtown Oilers crossing clubs with the Southeast Texans.
Big winners for the day were Oilers’ Micah Depew, CJ Chance and Arjun Singh earning 3 points against the Texans, helping moving the Boomtown squad into a tie for 1st Place. The Cardinals lead by Tyler Wallie and Gavin Farmer played steady golf against the Gators who were paced by Timothy Feemster and Hunter Johnston, each pairing earning 2 points.
Overall team point standings are as follows: Boomtown Oilers 10 1/2, Mid-County Cardinals – 10 1/2, Groves Gators 9, Southeast Texans 5
The next matches are scheduled for this Thursday at Brentwood Country Club.
