Decomposed body found off Old Yacht Club Road
The Port Arthur Police Department is investigating a homicide after an “extremely decomposed” body found off Old Yacht Club Road Monday afternoon.
PAPD Maj. Raymond Clark said Monday night the body was found in a field, about 500 feet north of the roadway, by workers walking along Old Yacht Club Road towards the highway when they noticed “something strange in the brush area.”
“They said at first they didn’t think too much of it, but when they took a second look they started to realize what it was. They called us about 3:15 p.m. Monday, and we sent officers out there to investigate,” Clark said.
Clark said because the severe state of decomposition, the Port Arthur Police Department does not know the gender of the body or how long it’s been in the field.
“We’ve ordered an autopsy (for Tuesday afternoon), and we’re holding back some of our preliminary thoughts until then,” Clark said. “Because right now we don’t know much — it could be a male or a female, and we’re not sure how long it’s been left out there —so we’re waiting for that autopsy report before we proceed.”
