GROVES — It’s time for some Fun in a Nutshell with the 2015 Groves Pecan Festival.
Fun in a Nutshell is the theme of this year’s festival, scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 5 through Sunday, Nov. 8, at Lion’s Park in Groves.
The grounds at the park were filling up on Wednesday as members of Lowery Carnival Company of Louisiana arrived.
“We have everything including Ferris wheels and rides for the young and young at heart,” carnival co-owner Willie Lowery said. Some of the rides are extreme such as Screamer, Full Tilt and Cliff Hanger then there are the ones for the kiddies such as Dizzy Dragon and Bear Affair.
Lowery said the carnival company was most recently at a soggy VooDoo Fest in New Orleans.
Elsewhere in Lion’s Park carnival company employees Bernard Barnett and Demeterius Dunn were busy setting up rides and other necessary work. Dunn climbed the side of a food trailer where he placed flags on top before adding decorative elephants.
Patrons to the festival will be able to check out different types of cuisine including chicken wings and fresh cut fries with Tony Chachere’s seasoning that Barnett will be cooking, he said. There will also be funnel cakes, deep friend Oreos, nachos, pork-a-bob’s, pecan pie and more.
Members of the Groves Chamber of Commerce and Tourist Center are excited and can’t wait for the event to begin and are hoping for good weather.
The festival opens Thursday with carnival only from 5 to 11 p.m.
