Joseph “Skeeter” Semien

Joseph “Skeeter” Semien was born to Helen “Nee-Nee” Fruge & Nathan Semien in Opelousas, LA. However, Skeeter was raised by Asell “Buddy” Hollins, whom always referred to him as “my son”. A graduate of Lincoln High school class of 1956, he met & married Shirley Figaro. He was a former employee of the City of Port Arthur solid waste, 30 years at Southern Union Gas Company and currently at Family Dollar #5852 in Port Acres.
Preceding him in death were his parents; mother & father-in-law Mary “Tee-Fee” & Clifton “Kulute” Figaro and granddaughter Jonelle “Nika” Swallow. Cherishing his memory: loving wife, Shirley; children, Bernadine “Midge” (Albert) Jacobs, Billie (Joseph) Lavergne, Joseph Jr. “June Bug”, Cheryl Newman and Glenn Semien Sr.; grandchildren, Bryce Julun, Brandon Julun, Joseph “Joey” (Lindsey) Lavergne Jr., Jeremy (Chandra) Lavergne, Atunshae Swallow, Nathan Mingo Jr., Kayla Mingo, Angel Semien, Amber Semien, Alexis Semien, Glenn Semien Jr., Armani Semien; great grandchildren, Braya Julun, Brianna Julun, Joseph Lavergne III, Jaydon Mingo, Kaysen Gardiner, Jamarion Valaire, Ry’le Sibley, Ahmarion Semien, Ri’Ona Johnson, Kyrin Young and his only surviving aunt Emma Jean “Skippy” Hagger.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Sacred Heart-St. Mary Parish Church with a viewing from 8 a.m. until service time. Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
