Trey Rembert was a special player for Brandon Faircloth and the Port Neches-Groves Indians, the main reason being Rembert started for four seasons at linebacker.
This past year Rembert was the leader of a defense that was at the top of the District 22-5A stats from the start of the season until the end.
Rembert has been named the Port Arthur News Super Team Defensive Player of the Year. It was questioned whether the award should go to a player who missed three games this season.
If one takes a look at Rembert’s numbers, the question goes away really quickly.
Rembert had 67 tackles, five forced fumbles, five sacks and two interceptions.
“It feels great getting the award,” Rembert said. “It really makes me feel like I accomplished something. I have spent a lot of time in the weight room and on the field.
“Being out those three games really ate at me. Those games out really made me become a more vocal leader.”
The Indians gave up a 22-5A best 262.3 yards per game in 2015 through 10 games. The next best team was Beaumont Central, who allowed 290.7 yards per game in the regular season.
“I played with a lot of amazing teammates,” Rembert said. “Those guys always helped me out a lot. I am pleased we got the district championship this year. I would have liked to win it on our own but I am still proud of our team.
“What I am most proud of in my career is I got to play all four years. There are not a lot of guys who get to say that after their senior year.”
