BOYS SOCCER
Indians 2, Ganders 0
BAYTOWN — Port Neches-Groves senior keeper Bryce Meche is a little closer to making state history.
Meche and his Indians teammates shutout Baytown Lee Friday 2-0 to open their District 22-5A schedule.
The senior keeper now has 53 shutouts in his career. Meche is eight way from tying the state record of 61 shutouts.
Koby Jones scored the Indians (7-1-2, 1-0-0) first goal off an assist from Christian Davalos two minutes into the first half to give PN-G a 1-0 lead.
Gunnar Nicholson made it 2-0 PN-G with a rebound shot.
Meche finished the match with five saves.
PN-G is at home Tuesday to face Goose Creek Memorial.
Bulldogs 2, Pirates 0
NEDERLAND — The Nederland Bulldogs got goals from Jaime Moreno and Austin Rich Friday evening as the team took down the Vidor Pirates at Bulldogs Stadium.
Moreno scored 11 minutes into the match and Rich found the back of the net in the 75th minute.
Nederland is now 4-2-3 on the season and 1-0-0 in the District 22-5A standings.
Coach Torrey Gomez said he was pleased with the way his team came out on fire early and that the Bulldogs were able to create some chances even after giving away a few possessions.
The Bulldogs play at Beaumont Ozen on Tuesday.
GIRLS SOCCER
Lady Indians 7, Lady Ganders 0
PORT NECHES — Have a day Port Neches-Groves junior Hailey Loupe.
Loupe scored four goals Friday evening in the Lady Indians 7-0 romp over the Baytown Lee Lady Ganders.
Senior Mikayla Johnson added two goals and an assist while freshman Sophie Brant had the remaining PN-G (6-3-1, 1-0-0) goal.
Mackenzie Tindel had two assists for the Lady Indians and Kacie Wallace and Jillian Flores each had one.
Keeper Libbie LeJeune was credited with the shutout and had three saves.
PN-G is on the road Tuesday to face Goose Creek Memorial.
Lady Bulldogs 1, Lady Pirates 1
VIDOR — The Nederland Lady Bulldogs opened District 22-5A with a 1-1 tie against the Vidor Lady Pirates.
Nederland (5-2-1, 0-0-1) got an unassisted goal from senior Tatum Kieschnick. Vidor’s goal came off the foot of Macy Chilton.
The Lady Bulldogs are home Tuesday to face the Beaumont Ozen Lady Panthers.
BOYS HOOPS
INDIANS 47, PATRIOTS 44
BAYTOWN — The Port Neches-Groves Indians found the win column Friday evening and picked up a victory for only the second time in six games.
PN-G defeated Goose Creek Memorial 47-44 behind 14 points from Haden Wiggins and eight points from Keynel McZeal.
The Indians (13-11, 5-4) used a big second quarter to erase a 13-8 Patriots lead after the first. PN-G outscored Goose Creek (1-18, 1-8) 18-8 in the second to take a 26-21 lead into the break.
Both teams scored 11 in the third and the Patriots outscored the Indians 12-10 in the game’s final eight minutes.
The Indians are home Tuesday to face Lumberton.
