The driver of a truck tractor semi-trailer may have suffered a medical incident that led to his vehicle overturning and spilling a small amount of product Saturday.
The truck was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 at Taylor’s Bayou when it veered off the roadway and overturned around 10:30 a.m. Feb. 13, according to a press release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Initially, it appeared that the tank portion of the 18-wheeler had been ruptured but after investigation troopers learned the vent tube was the only piece of equipment that was damaged during the crash. It is estimated that less five gallons of the product, isoprene, which is used in processing petroleum, was released and it evaporated fairly quickly.
The driver of the truck, George Vickery, 80, of Beaumont, was flown by medical helicopter to Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston. At the time of transport, Vickery was alert; however, there are no current updates on his condition.
Troopers continue to investigate this crash and suspect that the crash may have been a result of a sudden medical incident suffered by Vickery.
