Thousands of hot rods to pass through area

Locals have a chance to see more than 2,000 hot rods as they cruise through Port Arthur and Groves as part of the Hot Rod Power Tour on Sunday.

The Hot Rod Power Tour is touted as the largest road trip in the world where several thousand cards will travel to seven cities in seven days with stop and cruise nights along the way.

The group will be leaving from Gonzales, La. around 8 a.m. Sunday and catch a ride along Texas 73. They should be in the area of Port Arthur/Groves around mid-day Sunday, organizers said.

The group is headed to the Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown.

Max Smith of Groves will be on the lookout as his friends Jerry and Zelma of Rockwell, Texas and their family members drive their 2014 SS/RS Camaro, 1970 Plymouth GTX, 2010 Challenger RT and 2009 Jeep.

“Eleven of his (Jerry Fry’s) family members are driving through,” Smith said.

Other stops include Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Traders Village in Grand Prairie, Remington Park in Oklahoma City Okla., Kansas Pavilions in Wichita, Kansas and ending at Kansas Speedway in Kansas on June 17.
