BEAUMONT — A 17-year-old Beaumont man in jail on a capital murder charge has been tied to a string of armed robberies that occurred earlier this year.
Beaumont Police believe Tyrese Harris is a suspect in a majority of armed robberies that occurred in the south end of the city around Lamar University from March 12 through April 18, according to a press release from Beaumont Police Department.
During the time period there were 15 reported cases that detectives are working in which international students were targeted.
Detectives are still identifying other suspects possibly involved in these robberies and still searching for possible witnesses. Anyone with information can call BPD at 832-1234 or Crime Stoppers of Southeast Texas at 833-TIPS.
Harris is currently in the Jefferson County Jail and is being held on a capital murder charge stemming from the April 26 shooting death of Jimmy Bertrand at a home in the 900 block of Sunmeadow.
Police expect the robbery cases to be filed in the upcoming weeks and want the public to come forward with any information or instances where they may have been victimized in this manner and did not report it to police at the time of the incident.
