Trey Harvey has stepped down as Sabine Pass’ head football and basketball coach and athletic director.
Harvey told The News on Friday afternoon he has accepted the assistant principal position at Bridge City High. Jason Thibodeaux, who was previously Sabine Pass’ head coach, is taking over the team again in the interim.
Thibodeaux could not be reached.
Harvey spent nine years as the Sharks’ basketball coach and guided them to a 17-8 record this past season and a 2A bi-district playoff victory over Zavalla. He also was the Sharks’ head football coach, but the team has lost 17 straight and gone 1-19 the past two seasons.
Sabine Pass last won a bi-district playoff game in football in 2011, according to SETXsports.com. The Sharks begin the 2016 football season at 7 p.m. Aug. 26 at home against Pasadena First Baptist.
