CRITTER CAM

Most flounder are the typical chocolate brown mixed with white spots that show up when they are alarmed or are blending into a certain bottom. This flounder caught on Lake Calcasieu is a “piebald,” a term used when an animal has unusual white patches (and sometimes mixed with black patches) on its body. I have seen a few photos of piebald flounder over the years but this is the first one I have personally photographed.
Piebald whitetail deer are sometimes called “calicos”. Piebald ball pythons are selectively bred and will fetch hundreds of dollars in the pet market.
