2016 Groves Pecan Festival Mega Pass sale continues

GROVES — Sales for the 2016 Groves Pecan Festival Mega Passes will continue through Nov. 2.

The passes cost $35 each, which will entitle the bearer to ride unlimited rides during the festival beginning at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3 and ends at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6.

Mega Passes for the Groves Pecan Festival carnival rides can be purchased at the Groves Chamber Office, 4399 Main Ave. in Groves.

Mega Pass sales schedule

  • Saturday, Oct. 29 — 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Monday Oct. 31 — 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 1 — 3:30 to 8 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 2 — 3:30 to 8 p.m.

Children must be present to have pictures taken for the passes.

For more information, contact the Groves Chamber of Commerce office at 962-3631. The Mega Pass Sponsor is Mid County Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram and Lanyard Sponsor is MCT Credit Union.

Pecan Fest announces Arm band sales

Carnival Ride Arm Bands will be available on Thursday, Nov. 3 for the price of $22 and for Friday, Nov. 4 for the price of $25. Arm Bands will also be available for Saturday, Nov. 5. The price will be $25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and $25 from 5 p.m. to close or you may purchase an All-Day Arm Band for $3.

On Sunday, Nov. 6, Arm Bands will be available for $25 from 12 noon until 6 p.m.

This will allow an Arm Band holder to ride on the day of purchase. Arm Bands will be on sale in the carnival area at the ticket booth in Lion’s Park. Arm Band Sponsors are: Thursday night – Market Basket, Friday night – Dairy Queen, and Saturday night – Gulf Credit Union.

Pecan Fest Horseshoe tourney set for Nov. 6

GROVES — The Groves Pecan Festival Horseshoe Tournament will be held Sunday, Nov. 6 in Lion’s Park, 6200 Jackson.

Entry fees is $30 for the doubles horseshoe tournament and $10 for singles.

The doubles horseshoe tournament will begin at 1 p.m., with singles to follow doubles. Sign-up begins 1 hour prior to start time. Email confirmations to baileygolf@yahoo.com.

Bring personal horseshoes. The Chairperson is Brad Bailey and Chris Weber.

Pecan Fest Parade hits the streets Nov. 5

GROVES — The Groves Pecan Festival Parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5th. Line up will begin at 8:30 a.m. by entering from Terrell Street onto Cleveland Avenue. The parade begins at 39th St. at Cleveland Ave., heads west on 39th St. Then travels down 39th St. to Gulf Ave. where the parade ends after making a right turn on Gulf Ave. Parade sponsor is Philpott Ford. The Chairperson is Kyle Hollier.

Time for some pie eating fury

GROVES — The Groves Pecan Festival’s Pie Eating Contest, sponsored by Merle Norman & Bella Boutique and Classic Forms, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5 at Lion’s Park in the center tent area.

Break out the recipes, time to cook with pecans

GROVES — The Groves Pecan Festival’s Cooking with Pecans Contest will be held on Saturday, Nov. 5.

Entries will be accepted at the center tent on the festival grounds from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Judging begins at 4:30 p.m. with winners being announced at the festival stage area at 7 p.m. Entry forms will be available at the Chamber booth on the festival grounds until noon on Saturday, Nov. 5

The event is sponsored by Oak Grove Nursing Home and Julian Salter Insurance Company.

Pecan Fest Pet Show set for Nov. 6

GROVES — Pets of all sorts will strut their stuff during the Groves Pecan Festival Pet Show.

The event is set for 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6 at the Lee Rogers Pavilion in Loin’s Park.

Pet Show registration begins at noon. The Chairperson is Carol Sigona and Wilcox Veterinary Clinic sponsors the event.
