BEAUMONT — Darrell Jones was just doing work Tuesday night.
Jones scored 30 points and totaled 10 rebounds, Kevin Howard had 13 points and eight boards, and the visiting Bulldogs started their season with a big 67-52 win over Kelly, the No. 1-ranked team in SETXsports.com’s 3A-Private poll.
Nederland (1-0) won it wire-to-wire, leading Kelly (0-1) 10-4 after one quarter, 31-17 at halftime and 39-32 after three. Kelly’s Bulldogs pulled within 31-28 at one point.
Nederland scored five straight to open up a 12-point lead early in the fourth and didn’t look back.
The Bulldogs will visit Little Cypress-Mauriceville on Monday and return home to take on Hardin-Jefferson next Tuesday.
BOB HOPE 49, COLMESNEIL 41
COLMESNEIL — Chris May and Nick King totaled more than two-thirds of Bob Hope’s scoring Tuesday, helping the Eagles (1-1) win their first game of the season at Colmesneil.
May scored 19 points and King had 17.
Bob Hope will host Tekoa Academy on Friday.

DEER PARK — The Titans dropped to 0-3 after a 27-point defeat at their former District 21-6A foe.
Kennedi Lofton had seven points to lead Memorial, who will play Thursday through Saturday in the Aldine tournament.
