Leola Strauther Roberson

Leola Strauther Roberson, 90, departed this earthly life Thursday morning, November 24, 2016. She was a proud lady, especially during her last days.

Mrs. Roberson was a native of Pledger, Texas and relocated to Port Arthur, Texas after graduating from Huston Tillotson College where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree. During her teaching career, Leola taught school in Brazosport ISD, Cooper ISD, Crockett State School for Girls, Beaumont and Port Arthur ISD.

Mrs. Roberson married Mr. Winston Roberson and relocated to Port Arthur. She united with St. John Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. S. Shepherd. At the time of her demise, she was a member of Eastern Star Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Lloyd Scott. Mrs. Roberson was a faithful member until her health did not allow her to attend.

Leola was preceded in death by her parents Sam and Ollistine Strauther, her husband Winston Roberson, five brothers and three sisters.

She leaves to cherish her memories her daughter Stella Henley (Roland) of Sugar Land, Texas; one sister Leotis Hanchett of Port Arthur, Texas; her devoted nephews, Harold Underwood (Janice) of Port Arthur, Texas and Charles Stone (Beverly) of Beaumont, Texas; a devoted niece Barbara Jones of Port Arthur, Texas, and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Service for Mrs. Roberson will be held 11 a.m. Friday, December 2, 2016 at Eastern Star Baptist Church in Port Arthur with Rev. Lloyd Scott officiating. Viewing will be held from 9 a.m. until service time. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
