A train derailment near the 2100 block of Texas 87 has affected traffic in the Sabine Pass area.
Port Arthur Police Department got the call at 9:34 a.m. Friday, according to LaRisa Carpenter, public information officer for Port Arthur.
The train and seven cars successfully passed the railroad switch before the next two cars derailed. There were no injuries but traffic in and out of Sabine Pass could be impacted for the next few hours while crews work to clear the train form blocking the roadway.
Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety and Union Pacific Railroad officials also responded to the incident.
At this time, representatives with Union Pacific Railroad are handling the incident and DPS is assisting with traffic control in the area, DPS Sgt. Stephanie Davis said.
Motorists are urged to use caution while traveling in the area.
There is no time estimation as to when the derailed cars will be removed from the train tracks.
