Francis Joseph (“Joe”) Kanewske

A funeral service for Francis Joseph “Joe” Kanewske, 84, of Tyler, Texas will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Fifth St. Presbyterian Church, 1616 E. Fifth St, in Tyler, Texas under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Simmons officiating. Visitation will be held preceding the service at 1:00 p.m. at the church. Following the service, burial will take place in Rose Hill Cemetery in Tyler.

Mr. Kanewske went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 3, 2017, at Hospice of East Texas in Tyler, Texas.

Joe was born on August 23, 1932, in Port Arthur, Texas to Edward Raymond and Jewel Dinan Kanewske. He grew up and graduated from high school in Port Arthur in 1950.  Joe joined the U.S. Navy in 1951 and served our country during the Korean War until 1955.  He then attended Texas A&M University where he majored in mechanical engineering. After graduating from Texas A&M in 1958, he married Beverly Ann Guinn and began a 35 year career with Texaco Oil Company in Port Arthur, Texas. He and Beverly lived in Port Arthur, Texas until retiring to Tyler, Texas in 1993. After moving to Tyler, Joe joined Fifth Street Presbyterian Church, where he served as both a Deacon and an Elder for many years.  Joe also served on the board of directors for Missionary Tech Team in Longview for many years. 

Pallbearers will be Clint Covington, Leo Hebert, Matt Marshall, Lynn Moore, Reece Morrison and Chris Weisinger.

Joe was preceded in death by his brother Edward, of Temple Texas and is survived by his wife Beverly, of Tyler, Texas, his son Robert, of Lufkin, Texas, and his sister Doris Whitmire of Belton, Texas.
