Mary Ruth Fisher: Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Sister (and twin), Aunt, Neighbor, and Friend, passed away May 13th, 2017 at her home surrounded by family.

Born Mary Ruth Dartez on December 12, 1942, she was raised in Port Arthur, TX and lived in Nederland, TX for over 40 years. She was the proud matriarch of the Fisher family (and deemed herself with that title) where she reigned for 54 years over 3 children, one nephew, 7 grandchildren, one great grandson, countless nieces and nephews, and anyone else brave enough to be adopted into the family.

She had a life-long love affair with fresh coffee, warm baths, Mardi Gras parades, outdoor adventures, camping, sunshine, and the beach. She was appropriately fowl-mouthed, loved four letter words as much as she loved her flowers, and cooked the best chicken spaghetti and roast, rice, and gravy.

She took those she loved most on many adventures to anywhere and nowhere. Her life was an adventure. Her fashion sense was impeccable as were her critiques. She served multiple terms as the President of the “White V-neck T-shirt Club”. If one was lucky enough to be inducted, they were adorned with white, V-neck, Hanes t-shirts exclusively bought from the local Wal-Marts” (as she called it). She was unaware of the phrase “stranger danger”. There wasn’t a person she met, sometimes not by choice, that didn’t walk away with a smile on their face or a funny story to take home. She was the life of any party whether she was invited or not, and the sunshine that walked into any room.

As per her wishes, a celebration of Mary’s life will be held Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Beau Réve, 4400 Atlantic Rd. Port Arthur, TX, from 12-3pm. We would like to welcome anyone to come and share some of your best memories of Mary. If you are unable to attend, please celebrate her life in your own way; drinking a fresh cup of coffee or appreciating the beauty and warmth of a sunny day would be quite suitable.

In lieu of flowers or as an expression of love, we ask that you make a donation in her honor to Artist Boat (artistboat.org)- a nonprofit organization with the purpose of protecting our Gulf Coast through conservation, education and inspiring adventures that spark creativity, awareness and action while protecting its natural beauty.
