Gwenda Leday Dixon

On May 14, 2017, God called Gwenda Leday Dixon home. Gwenda was born January 9, 1955 to the union of Gustave and Vella Leday in Port Arthur, Texas. She worked for Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas for 25 years before retiring in 2010. She lived a life of faith and was indeed a soldier of our Lord Jesus Christ. She fought a good fight with resurrection faith to the end. She was a faithful member of God’s Chosen Vessel in Beaumont, Texas. Gwenda was a 1973 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Gustave Leday, Jr. and Vella Mae Leday; one sister, Shirley Provost; two brothers-in-law, Alcee Coleman and Wallace Provost; one great-niece, Jasmine Lorthridge; and one great-nephew, Savion Lorthridge.
Those left to cherish her memories: one daughter, Tiranie Dixon of Port Arthur, Texas; four sisters, Geraldine Coleman, Brenda Conner, Annie Daniels (Michael) and Kimberly Brady, all of Port Arthur, Texas; two brothers, Leonard Leday (Janice) and Gustave Leday III (Audrey), both of Port Arthur, Texas; five grandchildren, Quinn Dixon, Quaylon Dixon, Kayla Tompkins, Brandon Allen and Brandy Allen; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She also leaves special loved ones who were very dear to her heart best friends Emma Stanley and Carolyn Hayes.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Kingdom Dominion Church, 3600 Memorial Blvd., Port Arthur, Texas with visitation from 9 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
