Get ready to experience dinosaurs, superheroes and a whole host of activities as the 8th Annual Valero Kid Fest comes to Port Arthur Saturday.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 10 at the Carl Parker Center on 1800 Lakeshore Drive. Admission is $3 for children ages 2 to 12; $5 for 13 and over; and free for kids under 2. Free tickets are available (while they last) at the Valero Corner Store, Metro PCS, Mid-County Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram/Fiat, Gulf Coast Health Center, Cricket Wireless and Christus Southeast Texas Outpatient Center.
“It’s an event that promotes education and safety,” Barbara Phillips, public affairs manager for Valero Port Arthur, said. “It gets bigger and better with our neighbors in the community.”
Phillips said Kid Fest provides family-friendly entertainment and fun activities for all involved.
“We’ve got lots of entertainment, including Jurassic Extreme Walking Dinosaurs, Out Of This World Superheroes and Kid Fish, where the people at Texas Junior Anglers stock up on fish, give kids a fishing pole and bait and help them capture fish,” Phillips said.
“It’s the biggest kid party in town.”
This is in addition to the usual fare of games, arts and crafts, inflatables and an entertainment stage.
“Kids will also learn some tips about safety and good citizenship,” Phillips said.
The more educational activities will revolve around animal education, anti-smoking program from Julie Rogers Gift of Life and a demonstration on water safety from the Corps of Engineers.
“Our focus is on safety, health and environmental stewardship,” Phillips said. “It’s definitely a commitment of Valero to support these kinds of things in the community.
“When it benefits the children, it’s very special for us.”
