Eriton (E.J.) Lewis, Sr.

Eriton Joseph Lewis Sr. (E. J. Lewis) born October 21, 1933 in Opelousas, La to the late Armond and Beaulah Sampay Lewis. On Wednesday, July 12, 2017 E.J was called home at the age of 83. At an early age he attended St. Landry School and attended Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Opelousas. As a teen, he later moved to Houston, Texas and attended Our Lady Star of the Sea where he continued to serve his catholic faith as an alter server, an usher, and a former member of the Knights of Peter Claver Council 139 serving the order as a Jr. Knight Commander.
He moved to Port Arthur in the early 70’s and was the owner of many businesses and provided jobs for many people in the community. All that knew him, knew of his off the wall sense of humor, or some of the funny things he would say. He wasn’t big on remembering names but he was sure to greet you as “Hey Beau” and he too answered to the name Beau, and some even referred to him as Lewis Acres.
Preceding him in death are 1 son, Luther Patrick, his siblings’ 4 sisters: Mildred Briscoe, Dorothy Lewis, Shirley Richard, Verdie Jones, and 3 brothers, Walter, Preston and Leroy.
He leaves behind to cherish his fond and loving memories his loving and devoted wife of 42 year, Tema and 7 sons. Eriton Jamar(Danelle) and Morrell Sr. (Angel) of Port Arthur. Prior to his union with Tema, Eriton Jr.(Carla), David Wayne of Port Arthur Ricky(Stephanie), John Ricky of Houston, and Joseph, of Florida.
He is survived by 3 sister: Ruby Boutte, Houston, Mary Thibodeaux (Herman) Baytown and Clara Belle Donatto, Houston, 28 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren, 2 grand dogs, and his beloved pets: Raysen Chase, Bella Rose and his talkative African Grey Parrot, Pedie Bird. A host of nieces, nephews, cousin many close friends and business acquaintances.
His funeral services will be Monday, July 24, 2017 at St. James Catholic Church,
Visitation at 9:00 am, Rosary at 10:30 am and funeral begins at 11:00am. The funeral service officiated by Father Sinclair Oubre, burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves.
