Nederland’s Morrison 12th in Liberty XC meet

LIBERTY — Klein athletes dominated their cross country races in the Tony Munson Invitational on Saturday, winning both boys and girls team titles in the 5A-6A competitions.
Rachel Morrison of Nederland was the highest District 22-5A finisher with 12th place in the girls 5A-6A event. Morrison turned in a time of 20 minutes, 50.7 seconds.
Ny’Reonna Smith of Port Arthur Memorial was scored 15th at 21.57.3, and Grace Richard of Port Neches-Groves came right behind her by 5.4 seconds.
Also among locals, Jaysa Miller of PNG was just a half-second behind the 19th-place runner, Macie Saleme of Nederland came in 23rd, Bryanna Stevenson of Memorial was 24th, and Alexus Allen of PNG came just behind the 25th-place runner. Anna Licatino rounded the PNG contingent just behind 31st.
PNG did not have enough runners to be scored as a team (minimum is five runners). For Nederland, which finished sixth as a team: Litzy Vasquez was 35th, Savannah Maxwell 39th, Giovanna Hernandez 42nd and Asia Terro 46th. Memorial was seventh, with Millicent Neveu (37th), Denisha Anderson (38th), Darlene Nguyen (48th) and Julia Sion (50th) scoring.
Nederland came in sixth in boys standings, led by Blake Mortera’s 18th-place run (17:27.8). Collin Dietrich of PNG was the highest finisher from Jefferson County, taking 16th at 17:19.9.
Carlos Barboza (20th), Charles Potter (29th), Jake Moore (52nd) and Dakota Emerson (65th) scored for Nederland. PNG, which was ninth, also had Caleb Dominguez (42nd), Sebastian Wagner (47th), Kaden Flores (56th) and Keaton Richard (66th) place.
Ty’Vonn Allen, who finished behind the 80th-place runner, was Memorial’s highest placer. Memorial did not score as a team.
Eli Peveto of Little Cypress-Mauriceville was the runner-up, just 1.1 seconds behind Peter Meyers of Klein (15:44).
In boys 4A-under, Bridge City took fourth, with Hardin-Jefferson sixth and West Orange-Stark eighth. In girls 4A-under, Hamshire-Fannett came in third, with Bridge City fourth, Hardin-Jefferson sixth and LCM eighth.
