MONROE, La. — Lamar University sophomore Elodie Chapelet holds a two-stroke lead heading into Tuesday’s final round of the Fred Marx Invitational hosted by Louisiana-Monroe.
Chapelet, who shot a 77 in Monday morning’s round, roared back to fire a 2-under-par 70 in the afternoon on the 6,157-yard, par-72 layout of the Bayou DeSiard Country Club. Chapelet stands at 3-over 147 heading into Tuesday. Scarlet Eaton of Louisiana-Monroe is all alone in second place at 5-over 149 after rounds of 76 and 73 on Monday.
Chapelet’s efforts helped put the Cardinals into third place in the 12-team field. LU is at 629 after rounds of 311 and 318. Murray State leads the team standings at 608. Louisiana-Monroe is second at 612.
“Elodie made a great comeback today,” LU coach Jessica Steward said. “Although she’s not happy with her first round, 2-under-par is a great score here. The pins should be a little easier on Tuesday, and I’m looking forward to seeing how low she can go.”
