PNG AREA MATCH SET FOR PASADENA FRIDAY

Port Neches-Groves’ volleyball team will take on Santa Fe in their 5A area round match at 6 p.m. Friday at the Weldon “Stoney” Phillips Field House, located adjacent to the Veterans Memorial Stadium in Pasadena.
PNG (29-5) advanced with a four-set win over Crosby in Baytown on Tuesday. The Rock-A-Noos are looking to reach the 5A Region III quarterfinals for the second consecutive season, after having not made the regionals since 2003.
Tuesday’s win, the 17th in a row for PNG, also marked the second straight time the Rock-A-Noos won a bi-district game, after having not earned a postseason victory since 2012.
PNG is the two-time reigining District 22-5A champion. Santa Fe (20-12) is the runner-up from District 23-5A.
The winner will take on Kingwood Park or Shadow Creek in the regional quarters.
