BEAUMONT — The Al Price State Juvenile facility on Highway 69 will have some new occupants after being vacant for several years.
The Jefferson County Commissioners Court approved and filed a commercial list lease between themselves and Beaumont Dream Center and Harbor House Foundation at their regular meeting on Monday afternoon at the courthouse in Beaumont.
Mike Conner, a spokesman with Beaumont Dream Center, previously spoke at a workshop last month before the regular meeting of commissioners court on Monday morning.
Plans are to develop the correctional facility that has been vacant for several years into a state of the art recovery center. The work will be done through the Los Angeles Dream Center.
Beaumont Dream Center is asking for free utilities for the first six months so they can develop systems. Currently, it cost the county $60,000 a year for utilities at Al Price. Utilities are $8,000 per month with the building empty. They are also asking for a 30-year lease.
The term of the lease is 20 years, starting on Oct. 31, 2017 and ending on Oct. 30, 2037. This lease is renewable for two five-year periods.
The Dream Center will pay for all utilities.
The public liability insurance will be no less than $1 million. Utilities are currently costing Jefferson County $6,000 a month.
The monthly rent will be $1 per month and a $1 security deposit.
They are responsible for repair and maintenance of the property.
Commissioners approved Hotel Occupancy Tax funds for Ford Park Entertainment Complex for Fiscal Year 2017-2018 for $92,933. The original amount requested was $130,000. The majority of their costs are for advertising in industry publications.
Also approved was an amended agreement between the county and Tim Richardson for professional consulting services with the BP Deepwater Horizon restoration funding for Oct. 1, 2017 through Sept. 30, 2018.
He will be paid $10,500 a month and $126,000 annually.
Funds have been used to combat coastal erosion.
