PNG’s Gil named 22-5A volleyball MVP

Kaitlyn Gil’s all-around volleyball play earned her the title of District 22-5A most valuable player.

The junior was selected for the honor as the district released its all-district players and honors Thursday afternoon. Gil helped PNG win the 22-5A championship for the second year in a row and go unbeaten in league play.

Senior teammate Libbie LeJeune from PNG was named the offensive player of the year, and Nederland’s Peyton Smith took home defensive player of the year accolades. Korie Dominick of Port Arthur Memorial is the newcomer of the year, and Anna Hendrix of Livingston is setter of the year.

PNG placed three players on the all-district first team: Elizabeth Bolyard, Rachel Hammersmith and Bayja Newby. Nayla Bazile of Memorial and Abbey Montalvo of Nederland also made the first team, as did Caitlin Hood and Taylor Kile off Lumberton, Montana Piper of Livingston, Vivian Lindsey of Vidor and Mercedes Perry of Ozen.

Second-team all-district players were: Karley McGill and Meg Sheppard of Nederland, Baylee Priddy of PNG, Ansleigh Brister and Summer Hoffer of Livingston, Shalyn Bobbitt of Vidor, and Tamya Renfro and Malaysia St. Clair of Beaumont Central.
