All three Mid- and South County 5A teams have qualified for the upcoming UIL football playoffs, and two of them are No. 1 seeds.
Port Arthur Memorial (7-1, 7-1 in 22-5A) earned a share of the district championship for the second straight year after beating Vidor 40-14. That win earned the Titans a date with Kingwood Park (5-3, 5-3 in 21-5A) at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Porter’s Texan Drive Stadium as a top seed in the 5A Division I playoffs.
Port Neches-Groves (8-1, 7-1) missed out on winning 22-5A outright for the first time since 2009, falling 36-35 to Nederland (7-2, 6-2) in the Bum Phillips Bowl on Friday. PNG, however, is the district’s No. 1 seed in 5A Division II playoffs and will face Crosby (9-1, 7-1) at Stallworth Stadium in Baytown.

This will be the third consecutive playoff game for the Indians at the Goose Creek ISD stadium, dating back to last year’s area round game against Fort Bend Willowridge.
Nederland needed no help in getting into the playoffs, but Memorial’s win would have secured third place in the district for the Bulldogs. Nederland goes into the 5A Division I playoffs as a second seed against Porter at 7 p.m. Friday at Ray Maddry Stadium in Channelview.
Ticket prices for Memorial vs. Kingwood Park are $4 for students and $6 for adults at the gate, and $8 for everyone at the gate. For Nederland vs. Porter, they are $3 for students, $5 for adults and $7 for all at the gate.
Ticket prices for PNG vs. Crosby have not been announced.
