Phillip “Larry” Jones

Phillip “Larry” Jones, 75, was born on November 7, 1942 to Ezekiel Jones, Jr. and Rosella Taylor Jones in Port Arthur, TX.  He departed this life at St. Luke’s Hospice in Lufkin, TX on Sunday, November 12, 2017.

Phillip was a 1960 graduate of Lincoln High School.  After high school, he managed the family’s business, Jones Hamburger Stand on West 7th Street until he graduated from Lamar University in 1973.    He retired as an English teacher with Galveston ISD.  Phillip joined Reedy Chapel Methodist Church after moving to Galveston and served as a musician there for many years.

Phillip is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.  His easy-going manner will be greatly missed by three sisters, Betty, Joyce, and Faye Linda; three brothers, Ezekiel III (Connie), Thomas and Paul; ten nieces, eight nephews, great-nieces and nephews, many cousins and friends.  His devoted best friend Sheila Bruno of Galveston, TX will miss talking to him everyday.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, November 24, 2017 at New Light Baptist Church, 948 E. 5th Street, Port Arthur, TX with visitation from 9 a.m. until service time.  Rev. Randy Vaughn will officiate.  Burial will follow in Live Oak Cemetery under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
