PREP ROUNDUP: Sam knocks down 30 as Sharks sprint past Horns

SABINE PASS — All Sabine Pass needed were three players to score 55 points.

Daniel Sam went for 30 of them, and the Sharks broke open a 25-all tie to take a 55-40 win over Hamshire-Fannett on Friday.

Sam scored just one point more than his season average and shot 10 of 13 from the field. He also had five rebounds and two steals.

Sam has had a big week, coming off 27 points in a double-overtime victory over Legacy Christian.

Harold James had 18 points and two assists, and Grayson Johnson scored seven for the Sharks (6-3).

Hamshire-Fannett, a 4A team, led 13-9 through one quarter, but Sabine Pass held the Longhorns to single-digit scoring in the third and fourth periods.

The Sharks will host Bridge City in the third of a four-game homestand on Tuesday.

GIRLS

MEMORIAL 43, VIDOR 29

VIDOR — Julia Sion scored 10 of her 21 points in the first quarter, and the Titans (4-9, 2-1 in 22-5A) rolled to a 43-29 win over the Pirates.

Sion was the only player to score in double figures. Vern’Niqua Davis added seven points and Emily McElroy added six.

Memorial, which made 6 of 9 free throws, won’t compete again until the Barbers Hill tournament beginning Dec. 28.
