PREP ROUNDUP: Indians score fourth shutout in row before loss to Kelly

PORT NECHES — Through their first four games of the season, no one could score on the Port Neches-Groves Indians.
The Kelly Bulldogs figured out how in their fifth game.

On the final day of the PNG Kickoff Classic, Preston Riggs did a hat trick in a 5-0 Saturday morning win over Hamshire-Fannett. The Indians had outscored Liberty, Barbers Hill, West Brook and H-F by a combined 18-0.
But later in the day, Kelly handed PNG its first loss of the season, 3-2.
Rodrigo Estrada has a goal in each game Saturday for PNG (4-1). Tyler Jackson also scored against H-F, and Kellon Hoyte had a goal against Kelly.
PNG will play next in the Brenham Cup this week.

PORT NECHES — At the PNG Kickoff Classic, Jadon Castille scored the decisive goal, and the Bulldogs improved to 2-1 with the win.
Nederland will play in the Galena Park tournament this week.

PNG goes 2-0-2 in Waller
WALLER — Port Neches-Groves’ stay in the three-day Waller tournament didn’t get any easier following its season-opening win following a 5-0 win over Houston Westside.
PNG on Friday tied Granbury 1-1, without a shootout played. Mackenzie Tindel scored for the Indians.
Later in the day, the Indians beat Cypress Springs 3-1 behind two goals from Breeana Riggs and one from Mia Delgadillo.
In Saturday’s bracket play, PNG and Clear Falls fought to a scoreless tie before the shootout, but Clear Falls won a 4-3 shootout. The Indians (2-0-2) took six shots in the second half but came up empty.
Libbie LeJeune had four saves during the shootout.
Next for the Indians is their home Cajun Classic, which starts Thursday.
Bulldogs take home consolation title
HUMBLE — Nederland won two and lost one in the Humble tournament to take home the consolation prize under first-year coach Aaron Tomplait.
Meg Sheppard, coming off a big scoring season, netted at least a goal in each of the Bulldogs’ three matches. Katy beat Nederland 3-1, but the Bulldogs came back to blank Humble Summer Creek 3-0 and La Porte 2-0. Sheppard had two goals against Summer Creek, with Madison Diaz netting the other one.
Hailey Dugas also scored against La Porte.
Nederland will head to Katy for the I-10 Shootout, which begins Thursday.
