Average retail gasoline prices in Texas rose 1.2 cents per gallon over the past week, according to consumer website GasBuddy.com.
Gasoline pump prices averaged $2.29 per gallon Sunday, GasBuddy’s daily survey of 13,114 gas outlets in Texas revealed.
Nationally, prices stayed flat for the week and remained at an average of $2.53 per gallon.
The Texas price reflected a year-over-year increase of 18.1 cents. Sunday’s prices was also 11.4 cents higher than a month ago.
The national average increased 8.8 cents per gallon during the last month and 22.7 cents per gallon over the same day last year.
“After several weeks of rising gasoline prices, it appears that perhaps the tide has turned and the bigger increases have started to fade,” said Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy. “Oil prices remain near multi-year highs but do show some signs of buckling at least slightly, but for motorists, we have not and may not see sizable relief just yet. Great Lakes refinery issues continue to flare up with no warning, and gas prices there may continue to be more volatile in coming weeks.”
Here’s what prices were on this day for the past five years:
- 2017, $2.11 per gallon
- 2016, $1.63
- 2015, $1.83
- 2014, $3.08
- 2013, $3.15
The lowest price for a gallon of unleaded regular in Port Arthur on Monday morning was $2.19 at the RaceWay, 12705 Memorial Blvd.
Here are some other average prices around Texas:
- Midland Odessa: $2.43 per gallon
- San Antonio: – 2.21
- Austin: $2.26
“What continues to impress is the large spread in prices between stations nearby, even as gas prices remain somewhat low, unsuspecting motorists have seen price differences of 10 to as much as 50 cents per gallon between neighboring stations in some large cities,” DeHaan said.
