PREP ROUNDUP: Nederland blanks Sabine Pass in softball

LIBERTY — Kristan Traxler threw a three-hit complete-game gem, and Nederland scored five runs in the last two innings to fashion a 7-0 win over Sabine Pass on Friday in the Liberty-Huffman tournament.

Lexi Eversole went 3 for 4 and drove in two runs for Nederland (9-4-1). Harlee Brown also batted in two runs, but she had one hit. Brittany Taylor and Hannah Goode each lined two, while Alyssa Collazo and Danielle Richardson each had one.

Nederland was coming off a 6-3 defeat to Liberty despite outhitting the Panthers 11-6. Goode, Eversole, Collazo (each with a double) and Brown each had two hits, and Trahan, Traxler and Richardson hammered one each.

Trahan scattered five earned runs on six hits through five innings.

 

Atascocita 9, PNG 0

ATASCOCITA — Kaitlyn Boudreaux and Kasidee Sartin collected Port Neches-Groves’ only two hits in a blowout defeat.

Britni Hunt could get no run support after striking out three and walking three. Four miscues hampered the Indians (6-9-1), who begin District 22-5A play Tuesday against Vidor.

Also Saturday: Nederland lost to Little Cypress-Mauriceville 4-0 and Huffman Hargrave 4-3.

 

GIRLS SOCCER
PNG 3, Memorial 0

In Port Arthur, Libbie LeJeune, Izzy Volk and Mackenzie Tindel each scored a goal in the Indians’ road victory in District 22-5A play.

PNG (17-3-3, 9-2), which was tied for first in the district with Nederland and Lumberton going into Friday, outshot Memorial 20-1.

 

Nederland 18, Ozen 0

BEAUMONT — Jordan Minaldi, Haley Plumley, Meg Sheppard, Madison Diaz and Madison Plumley each had two goals, and Nederland (9-2 in 22-5A) had no mercy on the Panthers.

Brynn Landry, Emily Leavins, Cheyenne Allen, Hattie Seymour, Phoebe Short, Jenna Brekel, Rylee Bolser, Abby Gray and Caitlin Gouthier also scored.

 

BASEBALL

PNG 1, Grapevine 1

CROSBY — The finalists in last year’s UIL 6A state baseball tournament fought to the Indians’ third tie of this season.

Grapevine scored the tying run in the sixth, after PNG’s Zack Deckert batted in a run in the third. Cameron Stansbury (double), Hunter Curtis and Deckert each had one hit.

For PNG (4-4-3), Josh Hranicky struck out six and gave up five hits in eight innings.

 

Summer Creek 11, PNG 1

CROSBY — PNG had the toughest time trying to come back from a 6-0 deficit to Humble Summer Creek in the Crosby tournament earlier Friday.

Summer Creek tagged Holden Lane for five runs in the first inning, two of them earned. Lane struck out two but walked three in a 43-pitch inning.

Alec LeBouef held SC to two earned runs on four hits in three innings and fanned three. Hranicky knocked in a run to end the shutout, as he, Carson Roccaforte and Curtis each had a hit.

 

Nederland 3, Ball 2

MONT BELVIEU — Alex Ortiz hit the game-winning one-run double in Nederland’s Saturday victory over Galveston Ball in the Barbers Hill tournament.

Trenton Simon doubled and Landon Hiltz went 2 for 2 with two stolen bases for Nederland (6-2-1).

 

Dawson 4, Nederland 2

MONT BELVIEU — Landon Hiltz drove in both Bulldog runs in the fifth inning to cut Pearland Dawson’s lead to 3-2, but the Eagles added an insurance run to come away with a win at the Barbers Hill tournament.

Hiltz went 3 for 3, and Angel Castillo and Adam Roccaforte each hit 2 for 3 for Nederland. Brock Holton and Alexander Ortiz also had hits. Hiltz and Holton each doubled.

Braydon Credeur allowed one earned run on four its in six innings and struck out five.

 

Memorial 2, East Chambers 1

FANNETT — David Torres struck out six and allowed three hits in five innings of a one-run victory over the Buccaneers.

Riyad Antoine, Derek Samudio and Derek Perez each went 2 for 3. Adler Kithler, Brandon Chaney and Torres each lined a hit, as Perez doubled and Samudio and Kithler each drove in a run.

 

Kelly 7, Memorial 6

FANNETT — Hubert Felix smashed a solo home run and Perez and Samudio batted in two runs, but Kelly still had the upper hand on Memorial.

Josue Rodriguez scattered four earned runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings. Kithler went 3 for 4 to lead the Titans, while Antoine and Chaney also had a hit.

 

Warren 5, Memorial 1

FANNETT — Perez went 2 for 3 with a double and RBI, helping back up Van Ellas in the win.

Ellas struck out three in six innings. Miguel Martinez, Antoine and Samudio each collected a hit.

Also Saturday, Bridge City beat Madisonville 3-0. On Friday, Bridge City beat Navasota 7-2 and Taylor 3-2.
