Staff report
At least two people were killed, four injured in Orange County after a Good Samaritan attempted to help the driver of a disabled vehicle Monday afternoon.
A spokeswoman for the Texas Department of Public Safety said the wreck occurred around 3:45 p.m. on Interstate 10, near FM 1135.
In an issued statement, DPS said a Saturn passenger vehicle was disabled on the eastbound frontage road of I-10. A Good Samaritan driving a Ford-150 truck pulled in front of the Saturn to help.
The assisting driver attempted to attach a chain to the disabled vehicle when it was hit from behind by a second pickup truck.
DPS said Justice of the Peace Rodney Price pronounced the Good Samaritan, a 46-year-old man from Orange, and a passenger in the Saturn, a minor child, dead at the scene.
The driver and a passenger in the Saturn were taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital with serious injuries.
The driver and a passenger in the second truck were also taken to St. Elizabeth’s but the extent of their injuries was not immediately known.
The names of the deceased would not be released until families were notified, DPS said in the statement.
