Races heating up in Groves, PNGISD

Filing has ended for the November election and both the city of Groves and Port Neches-Groves Independent School District will see busy ballots.
Groves
- The mayoral race has heated up with incumbent Brad Bailey going head to head with not one but two opponents as of Monday afternoon.
Bailey, 53, who has served as mayor for 16 years, will face Suzanne Williamson, 50, and Kaelan Joseph Ramos, 21.
- Ward 2 councilmember Karen Theis, 54, has drawn an opponent as well — Cory Perry, 42.
- Ward 4 councilmember Kyle Hollier, 67, has filed for reelection and he too has an opponent, Daniel Diaz, 36.
- City Marshal Norman Reynolds Jr., 57, did not garner an opponent.
In addition, there will also be an issue on the ballot to recall Ward 1 Councilman Cross Coburn.
Port Neches-Groves Independent School District
There are three open seats on the school board but only one contested race.
- Derek Knepp, 37, filed for the Place 2 seat and will face Dustin Aaron Marsh, 39.
Incumbent Lana Parker had not filed for reelection as of Monday afternoon.
- Place 1 Trustee Scott Bartlett, 41, did not draw an opponent.
- Place 3 Trustee Eric Sullivan, 49, did not draw an opponent.
Port Neches
There were not contested races in Port Neches.
- Neither Mayor Glenn Johnson or Councilmember Place 4 Robert Arnold drew opponents.
The last day to register to vote in the Nov 6 election is Oct. 9. Early voting begins Oct. 22 through Nov. 2.
