BEAUMONT — Adding on to the memorable NCAA South Central Regional win by Jamie Crowe that will send the senior from Glasglow, Scotland, to the NCAA National Championships, Lamar teammate Jordan Rowe has also been picked as an at-large qualifier for the Championships after his seventh-place finish at the same Regional race.
“This was a great performance for Jamie,” said cross country coach Tony Houchin. “We have had a lot of great athletes come through this program and Jamie is our first ever regional champion. And to have Jordan finish in the top seven and also be headed to the nationals is big for this program.”
Crowe and Rowe are the first Cardinals (and the first Southland Conference runners) to qualify for the NCAA National Championships since 2015. The Big Red duo are the fifth and sixth LU student-athletes to compete at the Championships in the last six years and the 19th and 20th runners in program history.
Crowe won the NCAA South Central regional after running a time of 31:36.3. He reached the first split in 6:15.4, trailing runners from Arkansas, UTRGV, North Texas, Rice, and Texas A&M. Crowe began to make his move by the 6.3k split, reaching that mark in third place with a time of 19:49.8. He completed his incredible race in 31:36.3, one of the best performances at the Texas A&M cross country course by any Southland runner in the last decade.
Rowe was 15th through the first 2,000 meters of the race, then moved up nine places into sixth by the 6.3k mark. He managed to stay within the Top 10 by the end of the race, finishing seventh with a time of 31:49.1. Rowe’s finish qualifies him for the All-South Central Regional team and the NCAA Championships — the top two teams from each regional and the top four individuals from each regional not on those teams qualifies for the NCAA Championships, taking place at the Zimmer Championship Course in Madison, Wisconsin, on Saturday, Nov. 17.
