Port Arthur police have arrested a suspect in the March 4 murder of a local victim.
James Earl Holloway, 18, remained in the Jefferson County Correctional Center on Tuesday morning on charges of murder, aggravated robbery and burglary of a habitation. No bond was set, according to jail records.
Holloway was charged in connection with the death of Kevonn Jeffery Washington, 18, who was found dead at Lakeview Palms Apartments, 5200 Gulfway Drive. Police said in an issued statement Monday night that the arrest in the murder, the sixth of 13 that have occurred in Port Arthur in 2018, was made after a joint investigation involving Port Arthur police and the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office.
More arrests were expected, the statement said.
Washington’s body was found outside the apartments, which were heavily damaged during Hurricane and Tropical Storm Harvey. The area was formerly known for high crime when the Gulf Breeze Apartments were located at the site, but those were torn down and replaced in 2010 by Lakeview Palms, which were completed with financing through the Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery Program.
