Former NBA player and Port Arthur native Stephen Jackson gave away $50 gift cards to 100 families for Christmas shopping at Target inside Central Mall on Saturday morning.
“Christmas with a Champion” allowed single mothers with children ages 3-11 to each register for a gift card at the Stephen Jackson Academy on Thursday. Jackson held the event through his Jack 1 Foundation.
Jackson, who led Lincoln High to a state basketball championship in 1995, won an NBA championship with the San Antonio Spurs in 2003. He spent 14 years in the NBA (2000-14), averaging 15.1 points per game.
Jackson also appeared at the induction of Earl Evans and Kendrick Perkins into the Museum of the Gulf Coast Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday.
