Joseph Earl Degeyter, 91, of Groves passed away Monday, January 7, 2019, at The Arbor Terrace Assisted Living in Kingwood. Joseph was born May 1, 1927 in Parks, Louisiana to the late Benjamin and Ada Degeyter. He retired from IBEW Local 479 after 70 years of service. Joseph enjoyed bowling and square dancing with his late wife Betty Jane and trips to Delta Downs.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Degeyter and Ada Quebadeaux Degeyter; wife, Betty Jane Degeyter and a son, David Degeyter. He is survived by his children, Robert Degeyter and his wife Victoria of The Woodlands and Glen Degeyter of Humble; brother, Emery Degeyter and his wife Arlene of Groves and ex-wife, Marcelina Weaks Degeyter. Mr. Degeyter also leaves behind grandchildren, Deanna Degeyter, Derek Degeyter, Jerry Serville, Sarah Degeyter, David A. Degeyter, Amy Heffernan, Roxanne Labbe and 8 great grandchildren to cherish his memories.

A Christian Vigil will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m., Friday, January 11, 2019, at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 12, 2019, at Immaculate Conception-St. Peter Catholic Church. Rite of Committal will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
