Dennis Eugene Dunlap

Dennis Eugene Dunlap, 74 years old of Groves, previously of Port Neches, was born on December 10, 1946 in Port Arthur, & died January 22, 2019 at Medical Center of Southeast Texas. He retired from The Prudential Insurance with 31 years of service (he also had a Prudential Office in Nederland).
In his younger years he was raised in Groves, and then the family moved to Bridge City. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Orange, graduating in 1964. He went to work for Pat Woods Pharmacy; then The Prudential. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Nederland.
In 1980 he was elected Councilman, Place 1, in Port Neches where he resided for many years, moving to Groves in 1995. As a Councilman in Port Neches he chaired the 1981 Pow Wow Festival. He also became a Reserve Police Officer in the early 1980’s, serving in Bridge City and Vidor, until he retired, after over 25 years of service.
He enjoyed collecting License Plates from all over the world, hunting, fishing, travelling (20 Countries), Cruising by Ship (over 20), going to Coushatta Casino every Wednesday on the Crazy Cajuns Bus with his friends, breakfast at McDonald’s with Herman, Richard, Jeff, and JC; playing golf, cooking his “famous” gumbo Christmas Eve and honey-ham New Year’s Day; woodworking, was interested in History (WWII, Titanic, Disasters). He was grateful for his police work and his many friends. He enjoyed life and loved his family.
He is preceded in death by his father, Frank Dunlap, Jr.; his mother, Helen Dunlap, his brother, Fred Dunlap, his son, Terry Billeaud. Surviving family members are: his sister, Lois Dunlap Dorman of Houston, his wife, Deanna (Dee) Dunlap of Groves; his sons, Shawn Dunlap of Nederland & Scott Billeaud of Port Arthur; his daughter Trinette Mitchell and husband Dan Mitchell of Bridge City; and 8 grandchildren; twins Taryn & Taylor Dunlap & Tyler Dunlap of Nederland, Lee & Karl Jensen of Bridge City, Kristina Cervantes of Bridge City, Rhiannon Billeaud of Houston and Meagan Mitchell of Bridge City.
A gathering of friend and family will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Sunday,, January 27, 2019, at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 28, 2019, at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Orange.
